The Chicago Water Tower, Watercolor, 11" x 14"

Perhaps the most famous landmark in all of Chicago is the world famous Chicago Water Tower on north Michigan Avenue in Chicago. This icon of a landmark is a symbol of the rebirth of Chicago from the ashes of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 and hence earned the name "Second City". The great fire tore through the center of the city and jumped over the Chicago River and continued to destroy all in its path. The fire was finally put to rest with the aid of water pumped from this tower with now stands today in memory of all those who perished in this most tragic of fires.

Today the water tower stands in the heart of the Magnificent Mile, which is graced by the finest shops and boutiques in Chicago. This area is also a Mecca for tourists from all over the world to see the famous skyscrapers and museums that they city has to offer. Some of the tallest buildings in the world are located in Chicago, which include The Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), The John Hancock Center, The Aon Center, and Trump Tower Chicago.
